Andrew Bulloch’s decades of club experience serves him well in the international marketplace. In the 4 years Andrew has been at Northstar, he has increased Northstar’s presence from 2 countries to 10. Andrew will be focusing exclusively on clubs outside the US. Andrew is an avid sportsman, traveler and reader.

Alyson Stevenson has been with Northstar for just over a year and prior to that was the Relationship Manager at ETS for 9 years. Mark Schlake comes with a track record in building, managing and growing new products and businesses. Mark formed ClubSoft in Kansas City, as one of the first Dealerships of the Jonas Club Management System, successfully growing it to become the largest Jonas dealer/distributor responsible for sales, installation and first-line support to over 400+ private clubs in the Southwest US and Mexico. After transitioning ClubSoft into a Software Development company specializing in all of the technology needs of Private Clubs, Mark sold the controlling interest to a management company.

Mark was also a founder of MobileSoft, a developer of Apps for the restaurant community. Mark worked at ForeTees, before joining Northstar.

Northstar Technologies, developers of the 2014 award winning Northstar Club Management Software, announced today that William “Bill” Wagner has joined the Northstar Team as Club Industry Advisor.

Bill, a former President of the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) has more than 30 years of leadership experience in the management of private clubs, hotels and resorts. Bill brings with him a wealth of knowledge about private clubs and will be advising Northstar on the strategic direction of the company keeping in mind the evolving needs of the club industry.

Bill comes to Northstar from Signature Group where he was Vice President, Club Consulting. Prior to that Bill held the position of General Manager and Chief Executive Officer at the Shadow Wood Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Bill says, “I was the GM of a country club that installed Northstar Club Management Software. I was very impressed with the software functionality and capability, which covered all aspects of club operations. I am very excited with the opportunity to work at Northstar and help further enhance the Northstar suite and service.”

Bill enjoys jazz music and is a sports car aficionado. He is passionate about golf and athletics at his alma mater Florida State University. He and his wife Carol have one daughter and two grandchildren and reside in the Atlanta metro area.

Getting Ready for EMV Compliance in the US

What is EMV?

EMV is a global standard for payment cards equipped with computer chips and the technology used to authenticate chip-card transactions. Due to the numerous large-scale data breaches and increasing rates of counterfeit card fraud, U.S. credit card issuers (Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express) are migrating to this technology to protect consumers, reduce the costs of fraud and stabilize liability within the industry.

Conventional means of credit card acceptance is based on a magnetic strip allowing cardholder data to be captured and replicated in the instance of a data breach or credit card fraud. Today, if an in-store transaction is conducted using a counterfeit, stolen or otherwise compromised card, consumer losses from that transaction fall back on the payment processor or issuing bank, depending on the card's terms and conditions.

Migrating to EMV, the liability for card-present transactions will follow the entity with the lesser technology. This is not a government requirement, rather a Card Association mandate effective October 2015. The mandate and implementation of EMV will require banks to issue cardholders chip cards. A chip card payment is processed through an EMV enabled terminal by entering the card at the base of the device and completing the transaction with a personal identification number (PIN) or signature onscreen. The chip generates and assigns a unique ID for each transaction for a single, onetime use for authorization ensuring the transaction cannot be duplicated for future use and thus reducing card fraud. For clubs, this means adding new in-store technology and internal processing systems, and adhering to compliance rules.

Is my POS system EMV compliant?

Northstar Club Management Software interacts with three integrated credit card providers – ETS, Paypros and Shift 4. From the development standpoint Northstar has made all the necessary platform changes and is currently waiting for our vendors to communicate protocols to Northstar for the EMV-enabled devices. Version 5.2 P5 of the Northstar application is EMV compatible.

What action should my Club take?

In order for clubs to be EMV card compliant, they have to be on or upgrade to version 5.2 P5 of the Northstar application. Clubs will need to obtain the appropriate EMV compliant equipment from their credit card processors and contact their Northstar Account Manager for implementation or to schedule a system upgrade.

John Patzwald joins Northstar as an Implementation Specialist and is a PGA Golf Professional with 20 years’ experience in the Golf Industry in various roles like General Manager, Director of Golf and Head Professional. John holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Behavioral Sciences from National Louis University and likes to travel, attend sporting and music events and play golf in his leisure time. John remarks “I am looking forward to helping other industry professionals use the Northstar Product to more effectively manage their clubs."


Lemuel Reyes joins Northstar as an Implementation Specialist and has over 10 years of experience in the Food and Beverage industry, having spent the last six in the private club sector. Prior to working in the hospitality industry, he served in the US Navy as a technician and network administrator for the engineering department aboard the USS Monterey. He enjoys skiing and cycling in his free time. Lemuel says “Having worked with the Northstar software as an end-user for several years before joining the company has really made me appreciate the incredible work being done and the advantages of an All-in- One system”



Jason A. Puerto joins Northstar as an Implementation & Support Specialist. He previously worked as the Food & Beverage Manager at a Private Club and has eleven years of hospitality experience. Jason enjoys traveling, spending time with family & close friends and enjoys the outdoors & amazing restaurants.
